Things to do in Lancaster and surrounding area

The historic market town of Garstang is a quick 10 minute drive away and is really worth a visit. It boasts being the world’s first ever fair trade town, which is quite an accolade to have! Its pretty town centre is bustling with locals using the various friendly independent shops that it offers. There’s a great choice of places to eat or to have a drink day or night.
Lancaster is a 15 minute drive by car. The famous Lancaster Castle where the ill fated Pendle Witches were held, is only a short walk from within the Court where they were tried and sentenced and taken to hang at Pendle Hill. A visit to the Judges Lodgings is time well spent. Built in the centre of Lancaster against the backdrop of Lancaster Castle and Lancaster Priory, this elegant Grade I listed building is Lancaster’s oldest town house.
Lancaster’s bustling Charter Market can be found in the heart of Lancaster’s historic city centre every Wednesday and Saturday. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of a traditional outdoor market and the aromas of freshly cooked food as you meander through more than 40 stalls selling a wide selection of items.
Situated within walking distance of the city’s historic and cultural attractions including Lancaster Castle, several museums, theatres and two main shopping centres, the Charter Market provides a great start to planning a day out in Lancaster.
From local produce to international cuisine, fresh fruit and vegetables to plants and flowers, jewellery and clothing to arts and crafts, there’s something for everyone to be found here.
There’s easy access to the wonderful Lake District with Lake Windermere only a 35 min drive from Stanley Lodge Farmhouse. Preston and Manchester via the M6 means some serious shopping is never too far away.
Take a short hop to where 3 Counties meet by Kirkby Lonsdale, you can jump between Lancashire, North Yorkshire and Cumbria within a minute. Now that’s fun!
Nearby is the fantastic Dewlay Cheese makers who have a great factory shop, you can even watch the cheese being made right there on site.
